I have acquired a copy of an old photograph of my grandfather with his delivery vehicle, and would very much like to be able to give it a date......even a rough estimate would be helpful. I wondered if anyone on GR might have an encyclopaedic knowledge of old vehicles, and would take a look at the photo to try to 'date' it for me, or even identify the make.........any help would be really appreciated.............Reg |

can you see the number plate as they can tell you a lot? |

The number plate is visible, and fairly clear. I have been in touch with DVLA, who can't help.........however, if the make of vehicle could be determined, I would pursue the enquiry through the appropriate 'Owners' Club'. Reg |

The number plate would tell you where and when the van was first registered . eg A1 was the first in 1903 and . Initially each council was issued one letter to use on the number plates , they could not have known how popular the motor car was to become and as the number of cars increased they quickly ran out of combinations ,so they started to use two and then three letter combinations untill 1963. |

Reggie, if you were to post a pic of it on Family Tree Forum photos board it may get a good response? The FTF is open to all now. Or you could email a copy to me and Ill post it on there if you like? Or you could perhaps send it to the chap who runs this site? www*oldclassiccar*co*uk/ |

You can look through photos - enter a search there - Im sure they would easily identify your van though if you sent a pic. |
