Hi Jeannie (You're not in Bromley by any chance are you?) Here's the link to the SOG catalogue. http://207.67.203.82/S10312UKStaff/opac/ There's tons of stuff there, and shelfloads of books arranged in counties. More than enough to keep you amused for a day. However, it is a good idea to know what you want to look at before you go. Janice |

SOG can be an amazingly bewildering place!! Like Ann said, search the SOGCAT online all week before you go and make a list of what you want to look at, otherwise you'll waste time when you are there. Enjoy your day out. Janice |

Carole I've never been to SOG library, although I keep meaning to go! They have a website with an online catalogue of their holdings, so I'd suggest you look at that, to see what they have for the areas you're interested in. Hope you find what you're looking for! |

ok, i had to lay off my research for a while as it was driving me round the bend not getting anywhere!!! got a headache from keep hitting that flippin brick wall!! anyway, next friday, i am off work so have decided to travel to london to visit the sog library. anyway, ive never been anywhere like that so im terrified that i will forget info i need etc... i will put down here what i have already and hopefully one of you lovely lot could tell me just what steps i need to take when i get to the library? this is definate; john kay c 1804 poulton-cum-seacombe-fisherman/canalman. married mary davies c1809. think they were married liverpool-not sure they had loads of kids-lots of sons who went into the canal trade too. i have certs and census findings that prove i have the right people. what i am hoping to find is john and marys marriage, their parent and any siblings. any tips would be greatly appreciated. cheers carole. btw would i be able to search for irish ancestors at sog too? |
