1930's girlfriend - family holiday?

I think girlfriend/boyfriend would only be included in a family holiday if the couple were officially 'stepping out'. Don't forget, 'nice' girls often had to be chaperoned!- i.e there would be one or two others included in the party. As a child, I was once taken on holiday by an unmarried aunt and her fiance, presumably to keep things 'respectable'. I shared a room with aunty and the boyfriend slept alone! Jay |

After my father died we found all sorts of photographs including many from the 1930's before he was married. My brother and I found some pictures of him on what looked like a secluded English beach with an unidentified girl. And in one of them she was topless!!!! Oooo-er! My mum's never seen it. |

i have photos of 2 family holidays 1 in 1930 and the other in 1939. on the 1939 holiday my nans husband (grandad was there). as well as nans brothers (wife i am guessing). however on the 1930's 1 only (the wife) is there my grandad isnt even though him and nan were together for 2 years before they married in 1932. i am havinf trouble finding the marriage which is why i wondered about girlfriends. |

Well maybe! Given that marriages were often but not always within family friends and given that family friends often went together for a holiday then the answer is yes. On the other hand given that ......... the answer is no. I kid you not. In one half of my ancestors girl friends were present and in the other half they were not! Clive |
