Missing BMD quarters

A few months ago I found a previously unknown relative in the BMD records. Silly me can't find the notes (still need to get properly organised) and now I can't find it on the BMDs either. I could be going mad, it has been suggested but on the other hand could it be that Ancestry has since taken off quarters? The reason I ask is because the years I have searched from 1922 to 1937 have a total of 7 quarters missing. Does this mean that the originals don't exist? If anyone is bored and would like to do a search I am looking for a male birth surname PEAK mother's maiden name STEPTOE anytime from 1921. Thanks very much |

A quich search in FreeBMD gives 4 Peak's with Steptoe mother's before 1917. Three of them different. Do you know the location Ken |

I had much the same problem but one of the clever people here told me to scroll right down to where all the years are listed and then (a) select year (b) select start letter (c) select quarter (e) if the second letter is fair way through the alphabet select a big page number up between the green arrows and click GO And it worked! The missing quarters were no longer missing! Hope you can understand that and if not hopefully one of those wise ones will re-write it for us. Clive |

This sounds a good trick to know, Clive, I'll give it a go... one of the missing quarters is June 1927. If I click on Jan-Mar 1927, I get to the right page for the surname, but I am one quarter too early. If I go to the top of the page (the 'you are here: E&W birth index, 1937-1983, 1927, Q1 JFM, P'), then if I click on the 1927, it sends me to a list of the quarters for the year, selecting Q2 then offers me a choice of A-Z, and selecting P takes me to page 1 of 68 pages of P's for that quarter. Page 1 is Pa..; page 68 is Py.. - just need to work out which is the best choice to dive in at to find the Peaks... perhaps it will be a similar point for most quarters? (for June 27, it is page 20 of 68 pages of P's - and no, unfortunately none with mother's maiden name Steptoe) That's brilliant, thanks, Clive |

Thanks Clive, that worked a treat. Couldn't find the male Peak with mother maiden name Steptoe born after 1922 though so I think I must be going mad after all. I'm sure it was there a few months ago. Oh well, that will teach me to keep methodical notes. |
