I seem to have lost a relative , in fact the whole family. her name was : Francis C M Dayton b:abt.1869 in Wales. On the 1871 census she is 17mths. and living in Shorditch. Her father Zacharia Dayton died in 1873, and her mother, Ann Grey died in Sept 1871.both in Shorditch I have trawled through the complete BMD from 1870 to 1882 and can find no trace of her!!!!!!!!!! So any clues would be good Anthea

The more usual spelling for a female is Frances.........have you checked under that version? Reg

Have you viewed the 1871 image? It seems odd that Francis is listed where she is in relation to the rest of the family......... Reg

Thanks Reg. Its all a bit of a mystery, as you say why where they in Wales? will try and dig deeper.

If Franci(e)s was born in Wales, it is not impossible that she belongs to one of Zachariah and Ann's daughters......sent away to have her child. I just don't buy in to the idea of her being Zachariah & Ann's daughter.........the whole layout of the census info goes against that scenario......... Reg

If she was so young when the parents died, is it possible that she was adopted and so her name was changed, maybe her elder siblings took her in?
