Checking because of another thread I have found there were 38,000 evacuees who when evacuation finished in May 1945 were not claimed by their parents. In some cases parents had been killed, in others blitzed, and in others parents just failed to reclaim their children. In a few years time I can imagine the genealogists having a nightmare time trying to work out who was where and why. Clive |

Never thought about children not being claimed after the war. Apart from the poor parents unable to claim,perhaps killed. Cant imagine not wanting to get my children back. How sad. As you say it will be a nightmare in years to come. Thanks for that info,very interesting. Trish xx |

...and that's just the ones who were known about. I am sure there were many foster parents who didnt bother to inform the authorities that little Johnny's mum hadnt come back to collect him. OC |
