This topic has been discussed before. There is a bug which causes previous contacts to re-appear, for some reason. These are all people who have been in touch with before, or they with you, even though you may not have realised it. If you don't want to keep the contact, if you delete all the messages first, then delete the contact, it should do the trick and not come back. People are also sending messages to say they have let you see your tree without them realising it. It happens when the clock on the little tree buttons to see what happens. Removing access, as many do straight away, does not send another message though. By then they are already in your contacts list, whether you like it or not. If you had previously given access to your tree, then simply deleted the contact at a later date, without actually removing the tree permission, then that permission remains, albeit dormant. As soon as a contact is re-established, then the permission re-appears, which may not be what you want. |

I was checking through my contacts today - I am seem to have made or received 'open your tree' requests from anyone or everyone on a thread I posted a reply on - pages of them, a couple of whom we followed up with pms, so if I delete the tree request, I also delete all the contacts, which I don't want to do. I'm not sure if my recent happening is of the same problem that your all getting... ..but it seems that when ever I help someone with a request, they then send me a PM saying they have opened thier tree to me! I've had five people open thier trees just this week!....I have lost count from previous weeks... The requests that I helped with were all from the 'tips' and 'record' boards......not PMs. GR...Can I make a suggestion please?.... Can you get rid of the spotty faced puter boffins and employ someone thats interested in GENEALOGY?....Please? OK, said me bit! have let off steam......now back to looking for deaduns and still trying to work out about these flippin gedcom thingys and paf file wotzits! (dont ask!) lol Happy researching everyone. Gerri x |

I put up a thread & contacted Genes about this. An automated request from a very old contact was sent to see my tree. I didn't open my tree - but the tree of the contact (who knew nothing about contacting me) was open to me!!!! Please report this to the GR team. People's trees are being opened without their knowledge!!! maggie |

its been like that since they changed the contact page every time you delete them they slowly come back again and also lot of newbies open tree instead of asking if there is a match first jeanette |

I actually wonder if the managers of this site are coping with the volume of use. No hot matches for weeks or months in some cases. No replies to emails. Strange things happening to contacts. They need to address it. Margaret |

mine aren't about tree shared or requesting tree, they aren't even in the inbox as messages, they are just names in my contacts. i no the few that should be there but dont no any of the others. |

i dont recall seeing a thread about it or i would have added 2 that not started a new 1. i take it this is a site problem like everyone getting loads of spam emails since re-subscribing? |

hi, the other day when i was on here i went to send a message to a lady i am linked to. there should only have been her and about 4 other people that have/are helping me. however i had over 2 pages of contacts, none of whom i had sent messages to or received from. i deleted all of these except for the few that i no are linked/helping etc. i have gone back into my contacts today and i have 3 pages of them again!!! what on earth is it all about? is the site adding conacts? or are people being added to my contact list when i reply to a post on the forum? |
