My family tree is stored on PAF from Family Search - I've just got a new laptop (managed to download all my family tree before old one crashed) and I went to download the PAF from Family Search but it won't do it. Is it not compatable with vista? Any ideas as to how I get access to my tree again? Maggie

Hi Maggie The question that needs answering is to clarify 'I went to download the PAF from Family Search but it won't do it.'. What won't it do? Can you, or can't you download the File from Familysearch or won't it install on your Laptop if you can? If you can't download the file it could be due to your security settings on your Laptop which is restricting the downloading of certain file types. If it won't install on your Laptop then it could be that 1) The application isn't compatible with Windows Vista (very likely) OR 2) you are not logged in as an Administrator on your Laptop. Only users with administrator rights can load applications on Computers. David

Thanks David, I'm not that computer literate but I get by. My 18 year old daughter got to the laptop first and set herself up as administrator so that may be why - I'll try again when she gets home. I did wonder if it was because PAF was compatable with vista as some of my software won't work. I wish they'd just leave things as they were - I was quite happy with Windows ME! Maggie
