Thankyou irene Yes this is my great aunt Lillie, parents richard and sarah ann.I am not very familiar with how to search on igi but what i really need is to find Lillie's marriage to Charles Henry Curzon. Had quick look for it on igi but no luck. I was concentrating on 1891( she is with her parents on 1891 census) to 1895 when her first child was born maybe they never got married? If i can find a marriage it will be my missing link to convince myself that lillies daughter Annie married Edward lawrence's son. Thankyou oc. i have e mailed the professer who is researching the Lawrence trial and will let you know if i get a reply. Yes i have the lawrence family on 1901 census. Harold is still living with his parents . chris |

Edward Lawrence was tried in 1909 and at that time 'had several sons in Grammar School'. He ought, therefore, to be on the 1901 with these sons, and easy to trace back before that - he was a Vet before he was a Publican. (Sorry, I don't have Ancestry, otherwise I'd look! I am intrigued now) OC |

Is Lillie's mother's name Sarah. The Lilly M Powell born in Madeley has her birth registered in 1872. Her baptism is on IGI for 1873 along with her sister Annie M 1881. Parents Richard born Ironbridge/Sarah Ann born Madeley.(according to 1871 census) Looks like they married 1869 Madeley had Frederick William. Lilly.John Thomas and Annie who can all be found in the 1881 census. Lilly is still with her parents in the 1891 census other children born to parents. Richard and Sarah Ann still around 1901 census. Regards Irene |

A quick google brings up an interesting site...a Professor is investigating this trial (Lawrence was acquitted). It states that Edward Lawrence's father was called Joseph and there is other biographical detail which may help you decide if its the same man. The Professor is interested in hearing from any descendants. The trial is a well-known one, which came to be called 'The Scales of Justice' trial. Google 'Edward Lawrence' + 1909 - it is the hit on page two. OC |

Thanks Liz, I have Lillie's birth cert but a marriage for her would give me a link to the Curzon's. On the wedding cert i have for Annie Curzon and Harold Lawrence his father is given as Edward Lawrence a wine and Spirit merchant. Just googled about the trial and it says Edward was a pub landlord and brewer ! Haven't decided how i feel about this yet !! my dad's cousin married the son of a suspected murderer !!!!!!! chris |

I would say that you need to find Lillie Mary Powell's birth cert. But also, you need to prove the link between the guy that's married to and this murderer. There's no definite info as yet that he's the same guy, could just be the same name as the murderers son. I tell my parents most things I find or suspect before I've confirmed them and bring them on the journey with me as I investigate further. 'This is what I suspect... I'm investigating further to be sure...!' Are you hoping there is a link or that there isn't? Tough one, coz everyone wants something juicy in their ancesters history, but do you want something *that* juicy? good luck, Liz |

Hi everyone. My great aunt was a Lillie Mary Powell born in Madeley shropshire in 1871.i new absolutely nothing about her until about 2 months ago when i got a copy of her mothers(my great grandmother) death cert. The informant was a charles h curzon son in law. On the 1901 census i have a charles curzon born 1872 and a lily curzon with 2 children annie 1898 and linda 1895. i sent for linda's birth cert and the mother was Lillie mary formerly Powell. so i assume this is my lillie. I have today received a marriage cert for Annie Curzon( fathers name Charles) to a Harold g lawrence. This is my dilemma ..... A lovely lady on this site has informed me that this Harold Lawrence was the son of Edward Lawrence who was tried for murder in 1909 for killing his mistress !! It apparently was part of a bbc mini series 'Shadows of the Noose. Before i go telling my family of this i want to be sure i have the right Lillie PoWELL and despite looking for a marriage for her (wanted a link to her father Richard Powell)and charles curzon for several months i have had no luck. Should i assume i'm right? any ideas christine |
