hi, i have just gone onto the freebbmd site to look for a marriage. i have found the marriage but it is listed as 2 different pages for the same people on each. which is likely to be the correct page and month? Marriages Dec 1856 Davey Joseph Barton Linton 3b 1189 Marsh Mahala Linton 3b 1189 Marriages Sep 1856 Davey Joseph Barton Linton 3b 763 Marsh Mahala Linton 3b 763

Marriages Dec 1856 (>99%) Davey Joseph Barton Linton 3b 1189 Fordham Sarah Linton 3b 1189 Mallyon Laurence Linton 3b 1189 Marsh Mahala Linton 3b 1189 Marriages Sep 1856 (>99%) Davey Joseph Barton Linton 3b 763 Marsh Mahala Linton 3b 763 Georgina.

I've looked on the complete index and the marriage IS recorded twice. I can't think why, unless there was some problem with the first marriage and they had to have the ceremony again. Other than that, could they be different people with the same names (cousins for instance - although I think this is highly unlikely). Kath. x

coming to this thread late - However I maybe able to shed some light on your double marriage if you haven't already.... I had a couple who got married twice. The first time was in church by banns and the second time was in a registry office by certificate in a different part of the country. It is likely that the second time was because the man who was a Sergeant in the army had quite possibly not got the permission of his CO to get married when he did the first time around and needed it so that his wife could be with him so therefore was required to go through a second ceremony. This was in1909. Hope this helps. Bo

Bo If you abbreviated Commanding Officer then genes thought you were posting and email addy , it doesn't permit that so it edited it out. Shirley
