How do I find records of the men in the WW1. I am looking for a Sargeant or officer on my Dad's side who was killed in WW1. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thankyou in advance. Stella X

Thanks Ruby, I have found one that matches, but how can I tell if it is him for sure, it says age unknown...Out of all of them he is the only one that matches any names on my Dad's side. Did all men have to go into the army in WW1?

Pretty much - they were cannon fodder. If he were an officer then its more likely he was regular army. You could try for his medal card on National Archives documents on line.

Ok, I think this is him: John Fullard - Private - date of death 13/04/1918 - Regiment Service, Grenadier Guards. But it says age unknown....So how do I know if he's mine? I have got two John Fullards in my Tree, Father born 1878 and son born 1900, so it could be either of them? No other names match on that website. I was told he wasn't just a soldier he had something, some ranks/stripes or something on his uniform?
