There is a museum in Chertsey. You could contact them - perhaps they will know. They have a website - Google for address. |

Using Google, it seems that Goosepool was at Pyrcroft Road. At some time there were flats there that were demolished in 1992 so that the land could be incorporated in the revitalisation of the area. According to AutoRoute Pyrcroft Road is still there. Kath. x |

Quite a few hits ! One of them leads to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/LONDON/1999-04 where someone else was asking the same question ! A reply came, too: 'Goosepool is a (short) street in Chertsey - I'm not surprised you can't find it on a map. If you have a look at the map and find the junction of Guildford Road (A320), Guildford Street and Eastworth Road (A317), the fourth arm of that junction is Goosepool, which runs North-West and quickly becomes Pyrford Road and then Chilsey Green Road (A317). |

I live quite near there if you want me to check anything out for you. The area referred to has been completely rebuilt in recent years. I have a book of old photographs of the area at home so I will have a look for you when I get home from work. |

Don't forget - if you're looking for people in Surrey in the 1860's/early 70's the NewspaperDetectives site is brill! Dragonfly* .... why don't you start a new thread for your publican? Or perhaps you should try the Association of Licensed Victuallers? |

I was very surprised to read this thread! I actually live in the flats on the corner of Guildford St / Pyrcroft Rd / Eastworth Road. They were built recently and a lot of old buildings were demolished to make room for their construction. From reading the contributions of other members, it would seem that I live on the site where Goosepool once was. I shall take a look around the area to see if the name still remains. Matt |

Hi If my memory serves me right and the roads have not changed too much... If you came down 'Guildford road' from St Peters Hospital. Before the Railway Station on the left was 'William Perkins' School. if you turned left just after 'Willy Perkins' you went over the railway bridge.. At the bottom of the bridge to the left were some small flats called ' Goose Pool'. (My Mums friend lived there).. They were built in the late 1950's early 1960's I think.. The other side of the bridge was the Fire Station. However it is a while since I lived there and there has been a lot of new road building. Hope this makes sense and good luck! Rose PS. Goose Pool must have been directly behind 'William Perkins School' the other side of the railway line.. as I said before, if my memory is correct. |

I've always had a thing about redheads. ;-) Anyway, sure enough I have a photograph of Goosepool in 1928 in my book on Addlestone and Chertsey which I can scan and send you - just pm me with your e-mail address. The book is full of local photographs including football and cricket teams with named players. Tell me the names and addresses of the people concerned 100 years ago and I'll see if they are featured. |

Leslie - it's: http://www.newspaperdetectives.co.uk .... do let me know if you score a hit. It's only an index, but if you find a reference to an ancestor, somebody is bound to be able to look it up for you. |
