I am trying to research a very common surname, ROBERTS. The only clue I have is...the area is Liverpool, John Roberts married Mary Mawdsley in 1868, Johns father was Robert Roberts. One clue could be.....Marys father was a quarryman who lived in Kirkby, Lancs. So I expect the Roberts to be in a similar occupation. Kathlyn

I would start by getting the marriage certificate which would tell you the occupation of John and his father. It will also tell you where John was living at the time of marrige, which could be a clue. Sam x

Dear Kathlyn A quick look at the Lancs Online Parish Clerk site shows a load of Mawdsleys and Roberts - definitely worth a look - the website address is www(.)lan-opc(.)org(.)uk - remove brackets. Best of luck with your search Maria
