If you have the full GRO reference (which can be found for free by registering with Ancestry) then you can apply online at:- www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates. They are £7 each if you have the reference. Kath. x

you need to find the GRO Ref for the birth and then you can order online. BMD's are held at the General Register Office Southport ,hence the ref GRO which they will need to identify the certificate

The GRO ref comes from the BMDs which are available on various sites. You need to find the birth record. From that you can obtain the year, quarter (Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec) , the registration district, say Middlesbrough, the Volume say 9d and the Page number. On the GRO site select births, then enter year, quarter etc and the names. You can actually add provisos like 'only if mother is Mary Smith'. IF mother is wrong GRO wil lcharge £3.00 not £7.00 - and you will not get a cert! CB
