I use Genopro. http://www.genopro(.)com/ (remove brackets). That allows me to make separate family trees and if I ever find a link it's possible to merge them into my own tree. I also keep copious notes and have got loads of files. For one of my surnames I have 3 bulging lever arch files......one is for my own proven relations, one for those in the same county as mine and the other is full of details of those I've found anywhere in the world. It's turned into an unofficial One Name Study but I am finding links between all sorts of groups. Sue

Or you could get several A4 fat exercise books(diff colours) and have one for each name and jot details down and often this comes in very useful as time passes. I use the squared paper(maths) ones from Lidls.

Get a decent family tree program like family tree maker - its only about £12 on TWR computing with a months free sub to ancestry thrown in. On there you have notes and books and reports plus lots more to help you. And you can back it all up to cd or internet storage and have your own free website that you can invite friends/family to view from their own puters.

Hi, If you put in a false person in your tree, you will probably get other people looking for a person with the same name and thereby give them false hope of a connection, also how can you put in a false person and then the information you are trying to keep in the hope of finding a future connection??? When I am trying to store this sort of info I use a different package and just add the info in the 'notes' of the person to whom I am hoping for a future connection, I don't add them to my tree. I hope this makes sence. I thought I had found a connection to a person on this site, so I contacted them, and found them not to be connected to my family, I DID NOT delete them from my contacts, which was good as at a later date I DID find we were connected. Hope you can understand all this, good luck, Lou

Hi All What's the best way to store details about people who can't currently be connected to your tree, but possibly will in future? Right now I've created a false person in my tree, and I'm connecting them there. Is there a better way? I want them in GR so anyone else looking for them/related to them can get in touch with me. Alan
