Info received only as good as the informant

I've just received 2 DC's. I was hoping for some info about date and more importantly place of birth. One is OK and proves my previously found info although the other still leaves me with problems. Is it possible to search somewhere an actual date of birth (its the year which is wrong and the place) but I'm fairly sure the informant would have known the actual birthday of the relative but not necessarily the year of birth. I'm not a paid up Ancestry. Been away for a while nice to be back amongst the knowledgeable. Sorry if the answer is obvious. Pat

You could search FREE on the Ancestry bmd lists....you just need to register, not pay. As you say, the birthday may be correct so I would search the corresponding quarter for a couple of years before and after the suspected birth year....check following quarter for a late registration too. Only a copy of the birth certificate would give the actual birth date though. Gwyn

Thank you so much Gwen. Sorry to take so long to come back - I'm backwards & forwards today (in more than one sense of the word!!). I have tried as you have suggested but there are just more birth certificates (possibilities) than I really can afford to send for at the moment - guess I'll just have to do one at a time. Just hoped I could narrow it down a bit by searching the birthday not the year. Do you know which site shows actual census records not the transcribed ones - I can't remember. Pat

Hiya Kathleen The DC says Thomas William Cross was born in Warwick on the 17th August 1886. But, I do know (proved) that this chap married Edith Heather in 1913 and at that time he was 24 yrs which would put his dob at 1889/90. On the MC his father is William Cross. Thank you x

Thank you so much Claire. I don't know where he was born that's the problem. Just know his father's name (William) and occupation. I'll just have to resort to sending BC one at a time until I hit the right one. Informant on DC seems to think Warwick, so I'll go for that area first I think. Might try and trawl census' first though. x
