Just put in silk harness in search engine it looks as though they were making silks for jockeys. It came up with an equestrian theme. In that part of the world there were lots of Huguenot Silk Weavers I have lots in my tree.

following my train of thought I just did a google search + found this on a Mill website. Harness - part of the loom that holds the leashes. They are raised and lowered to create the weave pattern. Maybe you could find a textile history site online.

Could it be something to do with the manufacture of silk? A part of the machinery perhaps ........A harness for holding the silk?
