Hi everyone! The minimum age for marriage in the UK was raised to 16yrs (with parental consent), for both sexes in 1929, before that, it was 14 for boys & 12 for girls!!! My gr.grandmother married in 1900 aged 15yrs 4mths! |

Hello Julie, Yes, Frances Leader born around 1846 was my great grandmother, so it would help to get her birth certificate & discover her mother Frances' maiden name (so many Frances'!!!) Thanks again, Fran |

Frances I would order the B/C for Frances b 1846, as that would give you her mums maiden name, then you can look for their marriage Also it will save you money as you won't get the wrong M/c. Just thought which 1 of the children do you come down from, just in case its not Frances and you might not want her B/C Sorry for going on a bit lol Julie |

Thank you Claire & Julie for your very quick replies! I have not been able to find William Leader in the 1841 Census to see whether he was married then. But I will now look into the name Drain (!) and maybe send off for the certificates - this is all new to me! Thanks again. |

There is this birth/baptism on the IGI - batch C035247 FRANCES CAROLINE DRANE Birth: 02 APR 1823 Christening: 12 OCT 1823 Saint Mary-St Marylebone Road, Saint Marylebone, London Father: JOHN DRANE Mother: ELIZABETH That could make her almost 15 - and over the marriage age (with parent/guardian consent), I believe. Hello, I'm new to Genes Reunited but already within a week or so I have discovered more ancestors than I had hoped for. I'm stuck with one branch however, as I can't find out a Maiden name. I've tried searching the Marriage register between 1840-45, but it does not show a spouse's name, let alone maiden name. Does anyone have any advice please? Here are the names I am searching (and have confirmed with Census entries) William Leader, born 1820, London Married Frances ???, born 1824, London Census entries show that they lived in Shoreditch in 1851 & 1861 & had 3 children, Frances (1846), William (1848) & Alfred (1849). Any help would be appreciated. |
