What are the names and dates of birth? Have you looked at the complete index and not just FreeBMD? Kath. x |

Hi Heather. I've been looking on Ancestry. Either I'm going blind or mad ( both entirely possible..) or they're not there. Their names are Frances Lilian A Sainsbury, born Jan-Mar 1891 , Minnie Sainsbury, born Jul-Sept 1892 & Dorothy Mary Sainsbury 1893, all in Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire. |

Good evening all, I'm confused again.I have names & birth dates for my grandfather's three sisters, but can't find any death dates. This makes me think they must have married & therefore changed name, but I can't find any marriage dates either. Any suggestions gratefully received. |

Where are you looking for marriages? What are the details of these ladies. |

Just thought....perhaps I should have mentioned, they all appear on the 1901 census, so can't have died in infancy. Do all marriages & deaths appear on Ancestry, or are some missing? |

Well you have the freebmd PARTIAL index on there (not complete) or the full index which you view image by image - which ones were you looking at? Seems strange none of them came up though - are you sure there was no name change for any reason? Just realised, you are looking for marriages not births - so if you are looking through the name searchable bmd you probably wont find them - it will be too late a date - assuming you add 21 years to each of the girls for a rough guide of a marriage date - you are well into the 20th century. Freebmd only goes to about 1911 at the moment. You can trawl the full bmd index one year at a time or if you go to familyrelatives.org you can actually do a name search up to 1920 but its pay to view (Id look for all sainsburys for you but they have managed to lock my account and havent sorted it.) |

Hi again Heather, I didn't realise the FreeBMDs only went up to 1911. If I just enter the names on the home page & search for all records, will it not tell me whether they are in the complete BMDs then? Also, does this mean searching every quarter from 1911 onwards till I find them ( or go completely cross-eyed, whichever happens first?). |

Unfortunately it does mean searching evey quarter on the full indexes. FreeBMD isn't complete anyway so they may not appear on there even if they did marry or die during the period that freeBMD covers. And putting their name into the search at the beginning won't bring up any results for the full indexes as these are not name indexed (if that makes sense!). Wiltshire does have its own BMD site but unfortunately your ladies are not listed. For future reference, it is here: http://www.wiltshirebmd.org.uk Sam x |

Actually, freebmd had more than I expected for later dates BUT do you expect the girls to be in Wiltshire still or could they have moved to the London area? Freebmd is being transcribed by brilliant volunteers, so new years are being added all the time. Im just tremendously grateful they have done as much as they have so far! |

Thanks very much for checking for me, Sam. I'll keep that web address - a lot of my family are from Wiltshire. Hi again, Heather. Dad remembers Minnie, so she must have stayed local, but not the other two, so maybe they did move out of the area. |

Or, if you have a main library nearby, that has the complete GRO indexes, you can wade through the film or fiche searching them. |
