I don't talk like that, surely? Actually the Americans make fun of us Canadians. They say that we pronounce out and about as oot and aboot. Pity us poor Canadians being halfway between Brits and Yanks, we even have a problem with dates. If we see 1/10/ 1920 we don't know what it means because a Brit would say Jan.10 and a Yank Sept.1 or t'other way around. See what I mean, I don't know. Margaret

This looks like the same family in 1871 and he's now Edward, actually Hedward which brought back memories of my Yorkshire grandad who would add H's to words where they weren't supposed to be and drop them where they were! 1871 census High Road, Kirby Overblow, Sicklinghall, Yorkshire Robert Midgley, head, 43, ag. lab. Alice, wife, 33 Hedward, son, 13 Ellen, dau, 10 Jane, dau, 7 William David, son, 5 Sarah, dau, 2 James, son, 9 months All born Sicklinghall.

Just out of interest was robert a doctor? or any of his children the reason i ask i remember a very elderly doctor called robert midgley in burnley, lancs when i was a kid. Sorry not much use to you i know!

The closest one on the 1861 census is this Francis E. Do you suoppose he was Frances Edwin and went by his middle name? 1861 census 12 Maine St., Sicklinghall, parish of Kirby Overblow, Yorkshire Robert Midgley, head, 34, ag. lab. Alice, wife, 22 Francis E., son, 3, scholar Ellen, dau, 8 months All born Sicklinghall.

Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone can help me please my grandfather Edwin Midgley born @ Sicklinghall Gilling Yorks, married my grandmother Ann (Lazenby) 1882. I know they call Edwin's father Robert Midgley but who did he marry, and has Edwin & Robert any brothers or sisters and was Roberts parents called Joseph & Ellen.
