Back again and it worked this time - unfortunately didn't find what I was hoping for. It's never that easy! I also found that you can put in just a first name with the village and get a result. Probably could do the same with just a surname although I didn't try that. Thanks Sylvia and Heather. Jo

LOL, yep thats the way to do it. Just enter the village name.

Thanks Sylvia, I thought that's what I'd done... but now off to try again. Wish me luck. Jo.

Jo, Go to Search UK Collection (or individual census year). Leave ALL boxes empty except for entering the town/village name in either the Residence or Birthplace box. It works fine if you are looking for a small place .............. not so good for somewhere like Oldham, Lancashire when I got over 50,000 entries!!!!! Good luck! Sylvia

Many months ago Heather started a thread about how she discovered how to find people on Ancestry, listed in one village or small town at any census. I have done a search of various obvious words at the top of this page but no thread has shown. Can anyone please remember how I can find the information. I thought I could remember what to do but Ancestry is not playing that game today.
