SUE, You might want to post a new thread tomorrow asking if anyone has access to the US/Canada records on ancestry, and if so would they please check the Emanuel Cooper born England who crossed the border. It's a long shot, but we cannot find him on the 1891 nor 1901 censuses. If he died in the war (ie, was a serviceman) you should be able to find his death and where he was buried on the war graves site. Sylvia

I cannot find Emanuel John on the 1891 nor the 1901 censuses ......... I've tried under christian name (plus spelling variations), under Cooper alone, under born 1875 +/- 5 years, etc etc. I wonder if he was in the militarey and overseas or on a boat. SUE ...................... if you get your dad's or Dorothy's birth certificates, it will give you their father's occupation. Your dad's marriage certificate would also give his dad's occupation. Hi Lynne, I think the names are too much the same for it NOT to be the marriage of Emmanuelle and Alice. I also can't see that it is too early if Henry John was born in 1915, and his 3 sisters were all older than him ................ that's only 12 years between date of marriage and his birth! My grandparents were married in 1902, and the last of their 4 children was born in 1923!!! There appear to have been no stillbirths, miscarriages etc (and no family tales) in the intervals between 1903, 1910, 1915 and 1923. Sylvia

Lynne, I too looked on freebmd, and couldn't find Henry John, Henry or John Cooper born in 1915 +/- 2 years in Devon, let alone in Crediton. I also looked for Dorothy Cooper in Devon. No help. I looked for Cooper, mother's maiden name Eyles .......... no luck. Sylvia

To Lynn Never Ending Story hi lynn thanks for reply its not the one henry john cooper was born in 1915 so the emmanuelle of 1903 would have been to young plus henry had 3 elder sisters but thank you anyway sue - - - I think she is referring to the marriage that Lynn found. I don't understand Sue's referring to the 1903 being 'too young', as this was the MARRIAGE of an Emmanuelle John Cooper to and Alice. Sounds very like poppa's marriage to me!!

I am trying to find my fathers family his name is Henry John Cooper his mother was called alice his father emmanuelle henry was born in 1915 crediton devon he had 3 sisters:- Dorothy who married jack bowden lived in appledore north devon. rose whos married name was coulston. and mary cooper they all grew up in the exeter area they are all deceased apart from my dad I knew there names only thanks sue sorry I have confused every one my fathers name is henry john cooper his father was emmanuelle john cooper his mother was alice
