And you don't know, of course, that they are not desperately checking, behind the scenes. My tree went on here at a time when you could not easily add sources. I frankly got fed up with all the typing involved. If I get a contact on here, I send them a detailed report of the people we have in common. I never open my tree to anyone - why would I need to? OC

No-one can 'get into' your tree unless you let them............ But, if people only wish to 'save names', surely that is their choice........it's still nominally a free country! Reg

At least if you have used GR as a source you know you have to verify the info. Not such a bad thing really. Clive

HI If you download a gedcom from familytreemaker which is where i keep all my source data, it doesn't transfer to the genes tree. You only get the persons name date of birth marriage & death. I do the BMD, census, parish records, certificates etc. & have 5500 people so alot of data & OH has almost 11,000 all researched as far as possible still with a few to do. When i have a contact i always say ask me for any additional info as i may have it. Unfortunately using genes does make it look like name collecting. I also have my tree on rootsweb & this shows all the source data, a pity genes hasn't yet worked out how to form a tree to show all our information. Happy Hunting Sandra

Does anyone care anymore about sources. I'm running into so many people on this site that just save names. They get into your tree, scavenge it for names then add them to there's with no interest in source, or fact. They may as well make up a tree out of the phone book. This message should have gone to general topics, but they seem to talk about everything but genealogy.
