It's on the actual image twice too - so not a mistake on the part of the FreeBMD transcriber. Highly unlikely that two people would have been registered at the same office on the same day, with exactly the same name and mmn! Therefore I'd say the mistake occurred when the index was compiled back in 1917. Maybe it was actually twins, but the compiler of the index entered the wrong name for one of them by mistake, or maybe they simply added the same entry twice. The GRO index is full of errors, that has been shown to be the case many times!!

Maybe it was an accident as it was done by the same person

well they are both the same ref no so it would seem that have just been listed twice. Twins would have the same ref but would normally have different christian names. Surely twins wouldnt be registered with the same name unless they had differernt second names and would be known by that, Mary hasnt been given a second name so would say the listing has been done twice. I have been tracking down some reletives on the birth indexes and have come accross a double! On the index for 1917 q4 TWIGG there are 2 Mary Twiggs with same mothers maiden name etc. Does anyone know why this might be?
