My thanks and apologies (where necessary) to all. I think I may have missed one or two messages when GR were doing 'Maintenance'. M. Steer |

Sometimes they can be a wealth of info, but it is always the ones that are a bit of a mystery and you are praying for a relative to be there at the death and register it that come back with the workhouse superintendant registering the death or a neighbour etc. I was pinning all my hopes on my GGG grans death cert to give me some sort of info that I didn't already know BUT no of course she died in the workhouse!!! |

Hi Margaret, I know exactly how you feel. I received my g-g-grandfathers death cert this morning and it might as well have been written in a foreign language for all the good it's done me. At least you know you're not alone, perhaps we should go outside and scream lol. Caz |

O.C., and Chris, I must be in a particularly bad mood today. I have an informant who was 'present at death'. I don' know, though, 'who was there'. I'm afraid that I've taken umbrage (rightly or wrongly) at an earlier reply. My apologies as and where necessary. M. Steer |

Margaret I know how you feel.... After a wonderful run of 'luck' with death certs... Even a wrong one I ordered turned out to be a child who had been born and died between censues but his Grandfather (the man I was actually looking for!!!) registered the death.....I have had several certs for various ancestors that 'could' be mine. The details all fit.... name, age (give or take a year or two), occupations (where given), and area. However the informants are Workhouse Superintants, Neighbours, Nurses et al...Anyone but a relative :( Chris |

Margaret You have been unlucky then - nearly all my death certs have been registered by someone who was 'present at the death' OC |

I have a lot more than two Death Certificates. Not one of them tells me 'who was there'. M. Steer |

Does it help? - no it b****y doesn't! Just makes things even more complicated - as if that were possible. Ever get the feeling that something is 'staring you in the face' but you just can't see it? M. Steer |
