I have been asked to order a birth certificate but the date of birth I have got does not have anyone with the correct spelling of the name. The person I am looking for is John Beattie 18th March 1878 at Wigan Lancs The only one I can find is John Beaty March Q 1878 Wigan V 8c P 80 I know there are variations on the spelling of the name but when ordering the certificate do I put how the name should be spelt or the spelling on the Index. I am putting ref checks with the date of birth and Fathers name and Mothers first name. Any help would be appreciated Christine |

Have you checked for him in the June quarter? Also, you can order birth certificate by using date of birth on the order form. Jill |

Beware Family Bible pages..... You should double check all information. People who enter details in family bibles are also prone to memory lapse and mistakes, they're only human!!! In my family bible the baptism of one son is recorded 2 days before the child was born. I verified with Parish Records. The marriage date of another child is incorrect by a year, an understandable mistake. And the son in law's name is totally wrong! Again, I verified with Parish records and GRO. Everything else was correct, but it was a lesson to be learned. Double check and submit the information as set out in the GRO record, rather than giving the date of birth you would be safer giving year and quarter. Karen |

Yes I agree with you Karen on bible entries and even though there is one entry on the pages that does not correspond with any entry in the full birth index I cannot make the person see that the entries could be wrong. Yes I will order it using the entry as on the full index with the Fathers name as a ref. Thank you everyone for your help |
