Yes, it's another completely useless ''feature'' brought to you by the folks at GR! It's a not too subtle way of trying to sell you credits for their census searches - but what they fail to realise is that in all likelihood by the time you've entered a name on your tree, then you've probably already found them on the census anyway (most likely by using another site that offers far better value for money with regards to census searching than does the GR site!). It's not even that smart either - I have a dozen ''matches'' for my nan in the 1901 census. None of these so-called matches were even born in the right county, and they've missed her actual entry even though she's quite plainly there. And for another name I have several matches in 1901 - despite the fact that the person died in 1895 (and the death date is entered on my tree!!!). |

Can anyone help me - its been a while since I was last on here (just re-subscribed today). I was looking at my tree and noticed that next to some names there are little icons denoting whether they match census records or other trees. While this is interesting, how do you delete the icons once you've established that the matches do not relate to your particular ancestor? I can imagine that this is going to get annoying after a while if every time you move your mouse over a name the little icon box pops up!! Carole |
