Listen to David. Foxit reader is the best solution. You Don't need Adobe, it's BLOATWARE Foxit is much much faster and also has features like form filling. I stopped using Adobe.long ago. Works with 98 to Vista. Bob |

It does appear the this particular problem is not uncommon. Adobe have a solution on their website but it is not for the feint hearted. http://kb.adobe*com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=330497&sliceId=1 (remove *, etc) I would suggest that Option 2, which involves tinkering with the Registry is left to the experts. |

Don't bother with the bloated unreliable Ad*** Reader. Download and install Foxit Reader from here. http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php (Download is at the bottom of the What's New box) It's lightening fast and I recommend it to all my friends. -- Dave. |

Is sounds though your version is corrupt, although I find with Adobe Reader it is not necessary to uninstall first when upgrading. Try re-installing your old version first. You can get this from File Hippo. http://www.filehippo*com/ (replace * etc.) Scroll down to the bottom left and select Adobe Reader 8.1. When the page opens, instead of loading the latest version, select 7.0.8 from the list on the right hand side and see what happens with that. It should download an exe file to your desk top which you then run to install. If this works, then try and download version 8. Worth a try. |

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Spent hours yesterday and again today on this thing. Thanks to Lisa i have now got the files i wanted - opened by her and sent to me by e-mail. I have always had Adobe version 7.0.8 on my computer, suddenly it wont open the files anymore. I decided to follow advice above and try to re-install the newer version. First i looked at add/remove and it was shown on there, if i click on remove, it doesnt work, instead i get a message saying ' patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch exsists and that you can access it' This is all double dutch to me!! I then went to the Adobe website and tried to download the newer version anyway, it downloaded the photoshop ok, got to 95% of the Reader when i got another message. 'Failed' The older version of Adobe Reader cannot be removed. Now what? Anyone got any ideas please??!! Maureen |

I have just been to the CSCI site to check. Asked for Care Homes Scrolled down Entered Post Code and accepted radius of 5 miles. Up came on screen 54 places with details - absolutely no trace of a pdf or Adobe At the moment I do not understand your problem. Are you sure your difficulty is with pdf files or have you got too tight settings on your firewall/browser ? Clive |

use this http://www.csci.org.uk/ to go to the CSCI site. Use the search facility there to find anything you want CSCI (Commission for Social Care Inspection) is the organisation whch inspects care homes both private and council ones. Clive |

Hi I am desperate to look up 2 reports from care homes as we have got the rotten job of finding somewhere for Mother-in law to go and live. Adobe Reader wont work at the moment Is there a kind person out there willing to look these up for me and then forward them on to my e-mail address? Many Thanks Maureen |
