Hi I live near it...sure if you google Whalley, Lancs you will see some interesting stuff including on Whalley Abbey. Liz

In all census's from 1851 onwards, my families from Bacup, Rossendale, have either the district of Newchurch or Spotland. But on the 1841 the area was known as Whalley, very confusing, I think in the very early census Whalley covered a huge area.

Whalley is north east of Blackburn so don't think it would come under Liverpool Civil Registration The Register Office covering the Whalley area is Ribble Valley Roy
