Thanks, Reg - He could well be abroad in 1871. I have the regiment so I could investigate further. I can't find any death for Christopher Seaman, so I wonder what happened to him. Perhaps I shall trawl through FindMyPast tomorrow ....

Hi Reg, Yes, that's him. His father died/disappear c. 1833. Sarah remarried in 1842, but died in 1851 Dec qr. If anyone can find Christopher Seaman after this, they have done better than me! He disappears completely. I have still never found my husband's great-grandfather William Henry Lamb, born 1829, on the 1851 or 1861 censuses either.

I would say that the image of 1861 actually says 'Widby'.....even more likely to be a misheard version of Whitby......... Reg

I have on my husband's tree: Adam Horatio Theophilus Lamb (! - one of my favourite names). He was born in Whitby on 25th May 1831. I think I have found him (eventually) on the 1861 census - could people let me know their opinions? 1861 England Census about Adam Lamb Name: Adam Lamb Age: 30 Estimated birth year: abt 1831 Relation: Private Gender: Male Where born: Widley, Yorkshire, England Civil parish: Hougham County/Island: Kent Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: View image Registration district: Dover Sub-registration district: Hougham ED, institution, or vessel: First Battalion 60th Roy Rifles Western Heights and Citadel Dover Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 1 Household Members: Name Age Adam Lamb 30 Do you think that I can safely assume that this is him? I think that someone misunderstood the name 'Whitby' and mistranscribed/misspelt it.
