Hi I am trying to trace the movements of George Taylor and Lillian Ann Taylor between the birth of their 1st child in 1925 Whitwood Mere Pontefract and their 3rd child in 1929 Worksop Notts. If i was to trace through electrol rolls i assume i need to visit Pontefract and Worksop. We are visiting Leeds next week where would be the best place to get hold of the information bearing in mind we only have a Saturday. If anyone knows the Pontefract , Worksop or Bradford areas well please coiuld they give me the info for where their records are held. Thanks Helen

You are going to have a job on your hands - electoral rolls are listed by address, not surname. And his wife would not be entitled to vote at that time. Still, it is always worth a look. See if you can find any street directories too, while you are there. OC

Street Directories, or Post Office Directories, give the name of the resident of each house, usually the householder, but occasionally other adults too. Sometimes tells you what their occupation was. Where these are more useful than Electoral Rolls, is that they show WOMEN, if they are the head of the household. OC

Thank you for that info, i think street directories are going to be the best resource for us. Are the records held in Libraries or Register offices? Helen

Probably the eldest child wouldn't have started school before Worksop, which is a pity because otherwise the school entrance log might record a previous school, which might help you. What age did children start school at that time? Gwyn
