Surely the National Archives site should be your first port of call. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/militaryhistory/airforce/?homepage=mh-raf

Hi there, I am trying to find out more about my great grandfather's life during the First World War. I know that he served in the RNAS at sites in Crystal Palace, Cattewater and Newlyn, before he transferred to the RAF at its creation in 1918. I don't, however, know how to track his military service any further than that. I have tried (and failed) on the RAF and Royal Navy websites. Can anyone point me in the right direction as how I might find out more details? Thanks Richard
