Now added to my favourites - thank you, Lynne! I was very interested in the information on Workhouses. My great-great-grandfather was Master of the Workhouse at Portsea, and another Master of the Workhouse at Headley, Hants. Both wives were Matrons. When John Quintrell's wife died in 1884, his eldest daughter became Matron and assisted him. She went on to marry the surgeon for the Workhouse. Lots of interesting pages to view - wish I had more time this evening. |
