Where should I look for parents.

I have looked all day for parents of James Cottrell b 1818 North Tidworth Wiltshire. He m in 1842 in Marylebone London and died there in 1888. I just need help to look for parents. I just cant think where else to look for this name- it may have been spelt Cotterill at that time. Thank you Silver.

Silver, You need to consult the parish register for North Tidworth. It may be on the IGI or you may get a helpful lookup. You should also get the marriage certificate in order to make sure the father's name is the same as the baptism entry in the parish register. It may take a little time but unless you check you may follow entirely erroneous lines. Peter

Have you located him on 1841 census? His marriage cert will have the name and occupation of his father.......if known. Reg
