Was searching for records of my 4xgreat grandparents James and Bridget Donelly of Co.Leitrim Ireland online. Unfortunately Griffiths is no good for me, apart from the fact it's very incomplete in my area of interest, it's taken way to late 1856, my rellies fled Ireland after black '47. However last night I found an excellent resource on rootsweb with links to over 180+ pages of scanned records of the Tithe Appointment in the cloone parish, Southern Co. Leitrim from 1834, which is the nearest thing I'm ever going to get to a pre-famine census for the area. Luckily enough already have a few circumstantial bits of evidence the family were from Cloone, so have today been slowly trawling my way through it all. Anyway, rather exhaustedly got to page 79 and after a very clear, sober and somewhat boring record of names, surnames, plots and taxes payable. found this.. http://www(*)rootsweb(*)com/~irllet/records/049.JPG (replace * with dot) Line 18 A lady recorded simply as 'Lovely Widow Bridget'!.. Now I am am loooking for a Bridget, and sadly she too was widowed, though not that early so not mine....however made me laugh though. Never seen anything like it on such an official record before. The enumarator must have taken quite a shine to her!
