Thank you both very much for your help and advice. I will go to the library when I get the chance. I just want to see their names written somewhere next to the address so I can be sure.

The chances are, they didn't have a phone. I had a look on historical directories but the don't have any street indexes that recent. Perhaps you could contact the library closest to where they were and find where the local archives are. They may have street directories and electoral rolls.

Their surname was Rainford, William and Annie. I don't know the name of the shop only it was some sort of second hand shop.

My gran had a shop at either 157 Whitefield Road, or 52 Bourne Street, West Derby, Liverpool. It would have been William Rainford or Annie, 1911 possibly up to the late 1960's. I want to look them up in an old phone directory. I tried Ancestry and they want money to view. Where can I look if possible without paying a fee?
