Have record record and says DD and date Haslar Hospital - does this mean discharged or death? Thank you |

Depending on the date of the record it is likley to mean Discharged Dead - from a Haslar which as you know is/was a hospital it is unlikley to dishonourable unless he was up to no good with the nurses :-) Bo |

In colum re discharged, whither and for what cause - it says D.D. the date at Haslar from meningitis and dated again. His ships records finish at this date too. |

That is what I thought Bo - I have been searching for him for years - only one missing out of 10 children and I had a photo of him in naval uniform. Did not help that I have been looking for a Frank and they christened him Richard Frederick! In past 24 hours we have correctly named him found he enlisted underage and I guessed he was dead. His real age was 16 in navy 7 months and meningitis is a killer now so in 1907. So sad. |

Thank you everyone for your help - I just feel so sad about this young man - he is so proud in his uniform and I did not know he was only 16. The family went on to lose a son on Titanic, the youngest son aged 18 in Nov 1914, son-in-law on New Years Day 1915,another son in 1915, father in 1916, another son in 1920 and still the heartache went on in the family over the years. He was only a lad. Thank you |

Chris - I am reading this with great interest and sadness. I was rather puzzled at your entries one after another, as you were obviously replying to someone! Then your last comment made me realise that the gremlins have got in somewhere! It's so sad how some families have such bad luck, and when you have photos it brings it somehow closer to you. |
