Is this an occupation on a census? If so it just means that he was a general carter - in modern day he would be a general delivery man. From old occupations site:- Carter - Carrier of goods by wagon. The word General written after it just means he didn't deliver anything in particular, just anything he was paid to deliver. Kath. x |
