I have according to family memories both twin births and triplet births.. many who died young. Does anyone now whether it shows on a birth certificate if someone is a twin or triplet ect? Grateful for any advice at all. |

Usually gives the time of birth on each cert ,but that wont apply if one was a stillborn. Stillbirths weren't registered until the stillbirth register started 1st july 1927 and the stillbirth register is only open to close relatives Shirley |

Hi Shirley, Now theres a problem don't know if any were still born only that there was 22 children some twins and some triplets. Thanks for your help so as i see it the nine children i've found on census could have been a twin ect and if i had certificate it might show a time ... do i have that right. LOL. Lorraine |

Plus they would have the same GRO ref as they would be registered the same day. is possible for one to be on the next page number if the registrar at that time had completed the page with one of the registrations |

Lorraine Yes but guardedly!!! but then some registras did add birth time too on a single birth. I would look to see if there was another one with the same GRO ref. but of course if one was stillborn pre 1927 then you wont know as no record would be found |

The reason for the time on multiple birth certificates is for heredity purposes, the eldest child of a multiple birth takes precedence over it's siblings, in just the same way as the oldest child would where there are other children in a family. Jennifer |

Lorraine, my younger sisters were born twins. One died at three weeks old, and the other is STILL my sister. There was nothing on there to say they were twins. Only two individual birth certificates, and a death cetificate. Of course there may be places that do it.... I'm not an expert. my sisters were 1941. Deanna X |

The twins in my line had consequative page numbers... spotted purely by chance when I was matching Surname and mmn. Told my dad as they were his uncles and he was all 'well yeh... they were twins.' I just rolled my eyes, wish he'd tell me this stuff before I trawl through for it. lol. |

Thanks for your help, but now my mother says what twins and triplets. LOL Don't you just love mothers i spent hours looking for twins ect and finally decided to check if they were live births and she says i don't know i wasn't there. and then carried on to say the above. Oh no i meant the other side of the family, its not what she said though arghhhhhhh! Oh well never mind no wonder i couldn't find any to fit then. LOL. Thanks again. Lorraine |
