Could this be his birth registration:- John Alfred Buxton June qtr. 1886, West Derby, 8b, 568 (or 563 - it's not clear). The certificate would give the mother's name. Thanks fo input, as far as family know he ran away from liverpool aged about 11 and finished up in Yorkshire. He always told his family he thought he was a foundling. and never knew of parents. We are not 100 o/o sure 1891 is him but everything rings right bells because he mentioned Moore was known to him. very confusing but that's family trees for you. cheers Wendy

Wendy, Could it be that John Buxton is the illegitimate child of John Moore but he took his mother's surname? Perhaps she died and he was taken in by his natural father. Peter

Well, you need to get his marriage cert - to find out who he lists as his father? Or his birth cert.

Something very strange there isnt there? The chap who is shown as head - is also shown as single on the image! I originally thought he must have married a widow called Buxton? And she then died or is elsewhere but single??? Unless its just a mistake. John Buxton 5 Elizabeth Hardie 16 John Lewis 22 Ann Moore 63 James Moore 12 John Moore 30

looking for hubby's grandpa, Found in Liverpool aged 5 in 1891, his name John Buxton living with his father John Moore, brother and grandmother also surnamed Moore, no sign of mother. Can't puzzle out why different surnames and where to go next. PUZZLED Wendy
