Ann Greenfield (1825) married John Brown (abt. 1817) somewhere between 1841 and 1851. In 1851, the census places them in Wooton, Lincs and in 1861 they are in Hull. But cannot find the marriage. Any help from the assembled sleuths appreciated. |

Hi Glitter :) This is the correct record. Yes, I am confident that Geenfield is correct both from my own research and corroborated by another person who did their research independently. It had occurred to me that they may have married subsequently and I spent several hours yesterday trawling Ancestry and Family Search dot org to no avail. |

Is it possible she married before she married Mr Brown. There's this one: Marriages Sep 1837 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BISCOMB Harriet Pontefract 22 225 BRADLEY Sarah Kingston on Hull 22 225 DIBB Hannah Eliza Kingston on Hull 22 225 *** GREENFIELD Charles Kingston on Hull 22 225 *** GRIME Ann Eliza Kingston on Hull 22 225 JOHNSON Thomas Kingston On Hull 22 225 MAJOR George Kingston on Hull 22 225 SHADLOCK Sarah Kingston on Hull 22 225 WILKINSON Alfred Kingston on Hull 22 225 On FreeBMD If you enter the surname in the usual top box and then put Ann* in the spouse forename box it comes up with a list of all Greenfield surnames with another Ann in the listings so you don't have to check through every Greenfield one. Of course it shows female Greenfields as well but you can ignore those. Could be a needle in a haystack though! Have you found her in 1841? Jill |

Yes, there is a birth certificate which confirms mother's maiden name as Greenfield. It is possible that there was a previous marriage. However, the window would be rather small given that she was born in 1825 and her daughter Ann was born in 1849. |

Not sure but was the legal age to marry only 12 for a girl and 14 for a boy. Might be wrong Maureen |

You're right Glitter, the ages you say stood until I think 1921, so there was certainly time. Duncan |

There is this marriage in Caistor:- Ann Greenfield June qtr, 1848, Caistor, XIV, 425 There is also a John Brown in the same qtr marrying in Caistor but unfortunately the page number is 477. Wonder if it's possible the number was mistranscribed. Not likely, I know, but worth checking. Kath. x |

Maureen Thanks for that. The family originally came from Epworth so it is highly likely that is her. Looks like she is in the household of Cornelius Aldam (Adam?). |
