Don't forget that most Westminster records are at the City of Westminster Archive in Victoria and not at the LMA

It depends on which workhouse your looking at. For example Kensington workhouse registers have an index at the begining making it much easier to find the relevant person without having to look through the whole register. It's not generally alphabetical, but rather filed in the date order. It can be quite a trial locating someone when you don't know a specific year in which they were in the workhouse. It all really depends on the particular district your looking at. Liz

Creed Registers. Commenced approx 1878. It was a seperate register kept by every workhouse or pauper school, into which the religious creed of every inmate was entered. Usually It included name, date of birth, when admitted to the institution, reason for admission, religion of the inmate, and date of leaving the institution or the date of death. Chris

Has anyone been to London Metropolital Archives and looked through the Workhouse Registers and school registers please? I was wondering what to expect, are they in alphabetical or year order, or are they difficult to look through. I'm interested in LB Camden and Westminster records. Also, what are creed registers? (sorry, should know but don't). with many thanks in anticipation
