My parents bought their first house in 1948, in the Manchester area, nice quiet road edged with fields, 3 beds, 2 recep, terraced and with gardens front and back - they paid £795 for it. OC

Between 1940 and 1945 the Average price for a house in the UK was £500, rising to £2000 by 1951 so I would agree, £500, or perhaps a bit less, for a terraced house is probably close to the mark.

I'm not from Liverpool,but I am old enough to remember 2 up 2 down terraced houses in the 40's I would say definitely under £500. In 1958 I bought a 3 bedroom semi (new) in a very select part of North Manchester,nice garden,open fields,for £1950,so in a rundown area about 10 years earlier,and I suspect no bathroom,£500 would be the top end. Can't really answer for the 40's in Liverpool, but in the North-east of England in 1957 my parents bought a three bedroomed Victorian terrace house with two reception rooms and kitchen, back yard with outside toilet and small pallustrade at the front for £850, so it was probably less than that. Can someone tell me how much a 2 up 2 down terrace house with back yard, cellar and opening straight out onto the street in a working class area of Liverpool would have cost in 1949 please.
