I think the voice of reality might kick in if it did work, Barbara - just think of all those nappies and sleepless nights! Thanks Lancashire Lass for the address. I'll try and see if they have access to the workhouse records which is what I was after - my poor old pensiomer ancestor turned up there in 1901. Cheers Barbara

Apart from mugging little old ladies, I think I prefer Kathlyn's life-style suggestions! lol. Being technically a pensioner myself, I guess the 'getting pregnant' bit might not work - wouldn't mind attempting it, though! (Huh...chance would be a fine thing, says the voice of reality!) Bee.

Hi Suzanne I checked the form they sent me and it is £16 an hour but I still think it's a bit steep. Maybe I'm mean or just poor! Cheers Barbara

Hi Kathlyn Your alternative life-style sounds a bit too hectic for me! I'm nearly at the point when I might be the little old lady with the pension! I agree with you though, it's not as if they have to add anything to the records - most of them have been there for donkey's years. If it wasn't for anoraks like us all those records people would be out of a job - smoking pot, getting pregnant and knocking old ladies on the head.. Hope he who thinks he must be obeyed is getting a roast dinner tonight. Luckily we've been out to lunch so not much to do this evening. Cheers Barbara

Hi Barbara, When you consider that all the records are filed in such a way that those that work there should find a Baptism/marriage/death fairly easily given sufficient info. It does seem that counties wet their finger, hold it in the air and say.....Now how much can we sting them for......After all, we the tax payer, pay the wages etc. for these facilities, so why do we have to have a second whammy???? If you think about it.....us anoraks could be out smoking pot, shop lifting, become pregnant and be a further burden on society, knocking some old lady over the head to pinch her pension....BUT NO, we sit at home even too busy to make 'Him who thinks he should be obeyed' something to eat. And all for the privilege of putting our hand, again, deep into our pockets to feed our addiction. LOL LOL LOL Kathlyn

Hi Kathlyn Yes, it does seem Liverpool are being more than a little greedy. the cynical side of me wonders how they know how long a piece of research will take so how do you know how much money to send? Good luck with your searches. Barbara

Hi Barbara, I am now in the position to need to approach the RO in Liverpool, so thanks for your warning. I have now joined the Liverpool and S>W> Lancs Family History Society, so I hope they will be more of assistance to me. I have had dealings with the Bedfordshire RO and I cannot speak highly enough of the help I recd from them, copies of birth and marriage parish records and they even gave me one I never asked for with a little note saying.....'This looked as if it could belong to your research'.....and for all this for £5. More than a bargain don`t you think??? Kathlyn

Probably people already know this but I contacted Liverpool Records Office for information on an ancestor who had spent time in the workhouse. I received a form by e-mail to fill in....cost of research £10 per half hour! Am I being naive as Worcestershire and Bury records offices both sent me information free of charge - I even got a map from Bury. Scousers beware!
