I have this morning got certificate for my grt grt grandad JOHN WHITFIELD born C1841 Mickelton, Teesdale. Fathers name given as ROBERT a farm labourer, i can't find them in 1851 or 1861 only once he's married after 1864. I would be glad of any ideas. thanks

He marries RUTH JOHNSON on 4/6/1864

on later census he gives place of birth always as Mickelton, which i think is classed as Durham?

Is Teesdale in Durham or Yorkshire?

Margaret, where's Teesdale? I am not in England and it doesn't appear in the index of either of my gazeteer or AA Road Atlas. I think it is Yorkshire - but ... Victoria

on marriage it says his residence is Hunderthwaite and hers is Mickelton, married at register office district of teesdale and it says county of 'Durham in t york' it looks like?

I think this is him in 1861....the age on the image is NOT 14........looks like 20 to me. Perhaps someone else who has subscribed to Ancestry would check it out.........
