Gina ,, think everyone will have there own way of storing them , I have different family folders in my pictures that I store the census images on ,,,but I always print out copy for paper file and write the source number on back of it ;;; Babs

Yeah I do that, I meant more of a data base where I could just type the details and it would come up, to save trawling though loads of papers and documents, I tend to keep looking back over the same things when looking for something else.

I keep a list on Excel with all names down LHS and a row of columns - BMD plus census dates - then tick them off in the boxes as I find the info. Bit time-consuming to set up but saves a lot of repetition. Also put all census info onto individual records on PAF file as they then print out at bottom of family record sheets - that helps too as I can spot the gaps on those as well. Jill

Please please please do not rely on the computer. Copy everything onto CDs DVDs or any other medium you can but do not rely on your computer. They go wrong - with out notice - totally - everything gone ( particularly applies to flooded houses. And did you notice the number of people who said they do not have their possessions insured?) I have everything on computer, but I don't feel completely safe unless I have records printed out. I also make a word document for each family branch, starting wtih birth/christening, marriage, death and listing all the census entries in full. When I have a complete picture I print out the relevant information and store it on file with print-outs of the census and any certificates. When my relatives visit, I can show them this file rather than sitting them in front of the computer screen, which not many really like. I have the 'hard evidence' to show them.

Thank you for all your help, I do back up to disc. I was hoping there was some sort of magic programme out there, that I could use along the lines of Family Tree maker, but just for storing data. As I have some data not yet relevant to my Family Tree, but it may be at a later date.
