For anyone else following this, who is able to help me,this is the correct scenario as i see it. I have not been able to find any marriage's for sarah Ann Vincent or Beeton. (Looks as there could be a skeleton, rattling in the cupboard, lol) Many thanks for your help OC Best regards Viv

I have pm'd Viv, but for anyone else following this, who is able to help, I think this is the scenario: Sarah Sadler married Henry Vincent and they had a child, John Henry Vincent (Viv's GF).in 1906. Mrs Sarah Vincent then married Henry Beeton and had sons Charles (1909) and Fred (1912). There may not have been an actual marriage of course! Alternatively, Henry Vincent changed his name to Beeton for some reason, but in that case, why does Sarah give her maiden name as Vincent at the registration of the two younger sons and not Sadler? (Is that a skeleton I can hear, rattling in the cupboard, lol) OC

Viv I got your pm - thankyou. I think you are trying to do too much at once, and make a leap backwards without establishing the FACTS. Forget for now whatever family stories you have been told, and concentrate on getting your Dad's birth certificate, before you start confusing yourself with different possible surnames. Is your Dad still alive? (Sorry, can't remember if you said he is or not). If so, what does his birth certificate say? Ask him if it is ok to put this information on this board, though, first. OC

Viv As Jill says, you really must get your Dad's birth certificate first, as it sounds as if your family is going to be more than usually complicated! Depending on what that says, you will then be able to look for the marriage of his parents. OC

This is the only birth cert i can find for my grandfather's date of birth John Henry Vincent 04/12/1906 not as we thought it would be John Henry Vincent Beeton Fredrick Thomas Beeton 22/09/1912 I found cert for Charles date of birth 07/01/1909 on this cert gives middle names as Richard Harold, we did not know of the middle names but my dad's brother is David Richard and my brother's middle name is Richard and i named my son Richard. so sound as this is the correct cert. The one i am not sure of is my grandfather's as this would make us Vincent not Beeton lol Just don't know whoi am lol any tips on what name i should be looking for as my family tree i am so confused. Please help Regards Viv

Hi Viv Do you have your dad's birth certificate? What is his mother's full name from that? When did his parents marry? Which part of the country are we looking at? You need - his birth cert, then his parents' marriage cert - that gives you their ages plus fathers' names from which you should be able to find both of them in BMD records - if not 1901 census - sorry, not sure how old you, your father etc are - if you're a lot younger than me then you may need to get back one more generation before you can find them on 1901 census! Hi I start with my dad Jack William Beeton. He stated tracing his family tree, he was having trouble finding info so i said i would help him. I now have the bug lol but all so getting frustrated. His father is John Henry Beeton, he was told his father's full name was John Henry Vincent Beeton. His father never left any certs when he died neither did his wife Daisy. My fathers knows John had two brothers Fredrick and Charles, my father as a child remembers Fredrick coming to his home when he was on leave to store his army gear.He also remembers Charles coming with his wife, and his father John arguing with him on the door step and sent him away. He remembers visiting his grandparents a couple of times in London when he was very young but remembers nothing of the actual visit. My father has An older sister Olive, she can not put any more light on things, his younger sister Doffy remembers nothing and i have spoken with his younger brother David and nothing again. I have found sally who is the daughter of Fredrick and nothing much to go on there. She did say Charles had a large family and turned up on there door step many times and her mum and dad wasn't to pleased. Fredrick John and Charles never talked about there mother and father. I sent for Fredrick and Charles birth cert and on the cert it say's mother Sarah Beeton formerly Vincent and father Henry Beeton on John it says mother Vincent formerly Sadler and father Henry Vincent, so that's why we think at some point John took the name of Beeton and kept Vincent as one of his middle name. Unless i have all this wrong. On John and Daisy marriage cert it say John Henry Beeton does not mention Vincent at all and say's Henry Beeton as his father. On all the birth certs that i cent for reg district southwark sub district Christ Church St savior and St George the Martyr. As you can see it is all a bit confusing, as i don't have any dates of birth for Henry Beeton or Henry Vincent or Sarah i just don't know how to move on with this family tree. Thats why i thought of grave yards as another root, any tips would be of help to get started. As mentioned in message it would be hard to go down this root. I have tried free bdm and 1901 census but can not make any head way. I hope this explains why i am not sure if we are Beeton or Vincent. At this point i can not find any thing on Beeton or Vincent. Any more tips on what to do next would be of great help to me. Best regards Viv

Hi Viv, Post the details of someone you want to research here. Put everything you know down, making sure it's clearly set out. Then sit back and see if any of us can trace your relative (with your help, of course).

Vivien I am guessing you are new to this? Start with what you KNOW to be absolute fact - yourself. Then get your parents marriage cert, which will tell you the names of their fathers, which will help you to track down their birth registrations. Carry on like this, going backwards and getting certs, until you reach 1901. It should then be possible to trace them on the censuses, which will help you to find their certificates. Looking for burial places is a hard way to START your research. Much easier to get certs. Good luck. Ask for help if you get stuck. OC

Hi I am having trouble tracing family tree. Tried looking births deaths and marriges and nothing, so i thought try and find where they have been laid to rest, as any one got any tips on finding a list of centries in London Southwark or any other way to go about finding relatives. Is there any good chat rooms to join ? or any good groups to join tracing family tree in the chemsford area. Best regards Viv
