Write. Include an SAE your phone number and e-mail. That way he will feel that as you've gone to such effort............... Good luck.

Try looking through the [online] phone book for David I Seager first of all in the area you think the family may have lived, then go furthur afield. It's not a very common name so you shouldn't get an unmanageable number of hits. I have already looked for a D.Seager in the London area and there is only this one: D Seager Tel: (023) 8025 2623 72 Hursley Rd, Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh, SO53 1JB Then send a letter explaining that you are researching your family history, give some basic details about your great-grandfather and ask if they are connected to the family. I found a cousin this way. Good luck, Glenn.

When Sydney died in 1957 himself and Kate lived in Oak Grove in hendon. She stayed on the electoral register there until 1960, this was the year she died, but she dies in Hastings hospital and her address was down as - Moreton, Boscobel road, Hastings! The infortmant on her death certificate was W.Porter, the gentleman who cremated her. Onthere marriage certificate the witnesses were - A.R.Yates and G.Flint, i do not know either of these names and i have no idea how i could trace them x

If Kate died without a will the law steps in and relatives have to be traced. It can take ages to do because where (say) a sister has predeceased you have to find all that sister's descendents all of whom share her share. In the case I traced it went down to grand nephews/nieces of the deceased. Clive

What was the relationship of the 'stranger'?....Did they have an address nearby?...a neighbour perhaps? What about wedding witnesses? Could they be related? Gwyn

Hayley Report 4 Jul 2007 09:02

I had considered that he had other children, but its confusing to try and find them. The lady he married was Kate St Lawrence, but on there marriage cert he fathers name was job Turton, i have found her as a child but can't find her marriage to anyone called St Lawrence, and have serched for children between her an Sydney Seager (my great grandfather) but can't find any! Also i thought when both Kate and Sydney died if they had children then one of then would have registered there deaths! Kate registered Sydneys Death but a stranger registered Kates!

Have you considered that during those 18 years before the second marriage he could have been living with the lady (but as you say unable to marry until his first wife died) and could indeed have had children with her?

Maybe a silly suggestion but have you searched on here for possible relations or added to the trying to fine board? Marion

I know his addresses from 1938 till 1957 when he died. And i know he was a master house decorator, but thats all i know! I'm not sure how to search anything more about him, at a bit of a dead end where he is concerned, which is why i was trying to research his borthers and sisters to see if i could find anything more x

He left my great grandmother in about 1918-1920 and so was gone 18 years before marrying his second wife, but my great grandmother died in 1935 so this could be why he waited that long to marry again, until he was a widow! He may have found out about her death through my Grandads sister who only through research we have found had some contact with him, but she dies many years ago so we cannot speak to her about it! I have not written to the paper but i could try this i suppose! I'm not sure what else to try though x

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 4 Jul 2007 07:41

That sounds as if there was a long time 'unmarried'.....or was there another marriage in between? Do you know where he worked / lived during the missing years.? Have you tried writing to the local paper for where they lived? I know some have a section where you can write for help about family. Gwyn

He didn't marry again until he was 53 and his wife was much the same age, so i am assuming they didn't have other children! His wife was still alive when he died, but died 3 years later, she died whilst away from home and the informant was the gentleman from the cremetorium. My g grandfather never left a will, but am in the prosess of seeing if his widow left a will! Not sure what would have happened to there things if she hadn't left one x x

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 4 Jul 2007 07:06

Have you got great grandfather's death certificate? Who was the informant? If his wife was still alive then, it might be worth buying her death certificate to see who was the informant there. They may be a relative who may have photos of the couple. Did great grandfather...or his wife...leave a Will? That might be another way of finding relatives or close friends. Can you be sure that there were no children of the 2nd marriage, if he was never heard from again? Gwyn

Hi Hayley. Would David be living in Surrey? found an address for him on the 2006 roll, let me know if you need it. Sheila

Hayley Report 3 Jul 2007 22:03

Ok. My Great grandfather left when my grandad was a baby never to be seen again! I have found his death and his second marriage, but he had no more children! None of our family know anything about him and as he didn't die until 1957 I am hoping there is someone alive still who knew him or has a photo of him! I started searching for his brother and sisters marriages and children! One of his brothers was Ernest Easter Seager and he had a son called Ernest charles Seager who in turn had a son named David I Seager! Now i found on old phone directories an address for Ernest Charles in 1984. When seraching the electoral registers(can't remember where!) I found David I Seager with the same address more recently! Now i'e looked again on the electoral registers and can't find him or anyone else registered under that adress for the last 5 years! Would you write to the address? Or what would you do? I could do with some advice to help me move on x
