As usual it's my mothers side of the family causing me grief !! I've just recieved my GFather & G Mothers wedding cert: Peter Ellison age 20 living in Accrington marries 16/07/1930 St Pauls Church Oswaldtwistle Rose Ann Eatough age 18 ?? living in Oswaldtwistle (Accrington area) whos' fathers name is John who is a Labourer in Chemical works. So far so good, however the only Rose, I can find in that area is a Rosetta b 02/07/1903 in Gt Harwood (Blackburn area) Fathers name John who is a Baker journeyman. Mothers name Nancy nee Waring, how do I know this, well I ordered the Birth Cert. Do you think a women can shed 10 years (I know many would like to) as she would appear to be the only fit?, because look as I may I can't find a Rose Ann born in 1912. I tried also to find her death, hoping to count back, but I think they cleared off to Canada sometime in the early 1950's so thats a dead end. Your opinions, comments etc would be appriecated, thanks in advance. K

A woman can lose as many years as she wants - whenever! However, she may not have been born in that area. My g gran was born in Suffolk, but was in service in Dorset (unusual to be so far from home - but possible) and married my g grandad in Hampshire! maggie

1901 census This looks a possibilty on her father he is the son of Rose A, it is a possiblity that he would have named his daughter after his mother. If you search GR for the eatough you will find some matches.

Thanks Maggie & MM of Spain I'd spotted the census and the Rose A connection, I've done a full search on GR, Ancestry and BMD but can't find any Rose Ann's born abt 1912 in the country, all roads seem to lead back to Rosetta!!!! K

Jenifer Your a star, were on earth did you find that?, I searched everything (or I thought I had) it doesn't come up on Ancestry or BMD, or I'm being completley daft/stupid etc. and not seeing it !!!!! Awe well another £7.00 to the coffers of LCC. K

My g-g-g-g grandmother was widowed and remarried the same day as her grand daughter my g-g-grandmother in 1889, a joint wedding. Anyway her marriage cert gives husbands age exactly 34. Her age says simply 40+. At time she was 60, but I guess over 40 was all she was prepared to admit to the vicar and he was happy to leave it at that!

Is it possible she was adding years on rather than taking them off and have you trawled indexes for her? I would look for her father on the 1901 census and then for his marriage and then try and find her and other children. She'll be there somewhere, just some of them are more tricky than others! lol Good luck

It was on the Complete BMD Images on Ancestry, you must have been looking at the Partial index, or simply missed it, easily done if you are looking too hard. Jennifer
