Hi Thanks everyone for helping me with my Powell branch. I have by using the free bmd(tip from another helpful member) by just typing in Powell and madeley i now have a list of possible births. I am assuming they stayed in Madeley , but will still bear the Denis Powell 1912 in west bromwich in mind. . I will send off for certs and hopefully another of my brick walls will come tumbling down. THANKYOU very much for helping me. best wishes Christine |

Hi Chris, When the Digitisation of Vital Events (DoVE) project comes into existence so that the public can search the official GRO indexes online, all the birth records from 1837 onwards will have the mother's maiden name included. This might help you, but it may or may not be available before the 1911 census, that's the problem! Here's the address for the DoVE webpage: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/aboutus/lookingahead/Digitisation_of_Vital_Events.asp Chris |

HI Chris Have you looked for children born after 1911? If they married in 1903 they could have had children beyond 1911. Jill |

thankyou Jane. Yes i have their marriage certificate. They were married at a Wesleyan methodist church in madeley. i wonder if it is still there and might be worth a trip to see if they have any birth records. best wishes Chris |

you could try and get there marriage cert, which will give their father's name. Then you could find them in 1901 census. But if you are after their children you will probably have to wait. Jane |

My great uncle John Thomas Powell married a Louisa Rowe in June 1903 in Madeley shropshire. I have be given a copy of their wedding photo, however nobody in the family knows anything about them..I AM TRYING to find out if they had any children and my problem is that Powell is such a common name.Maiden names don't seem to appear untill 1911. will i have to wait until 1911 census for clues ? thankyou |
